HISTORY
The LaureL Foundation was originally established in 1995 as a private non-operating foundation by Laure L. Woods as a perpetual source of support for nonprofit organizations working in the areas about which she was passionate. After a brief period of grantmaking in Southern California, Ms. Woods settled near Palo Alto and the Foundation began to dedicate the vast majority of its grantmaking to programs serving the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. In 2022, the private foundation was dissolved and the assets were distributed to a donor-advised fund with the same name. The mission and geographic focus remain the same.
MISSION
The LaureL Foundation (“LF”) is committed to improving the lives of disadvantaged children living in Northern California. LF supports educational and social services organizations serving these children, especially those that incorporate the natural world, animals and the empowerment of girls into their programs.
We specifically look for organizations that demonstrate a superior level of integrity and transparency and those that collaborate with other nonprofits with complementary programs.
